The University of Florida is located Gainsville and is spread out over 2000 acres and includes 16 colleges with over 900 buildings. There are only a few schools in the US that are larger than the University of Florida with it’s healthy population of over 50,100 attendees.

The University of Florida originated in 1853 in Ocala when East Florida Seminary acquired the Kingsbury Academy.  The school then moved to Gainsville and officially opened up at the current location in 1906. Today, the University of Florida is the largest of the PT schools in Florida and is one of the highest ranked schools in the US. The University of Florida offers courses through the following colleges:

The University of Florida offers a program for students to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy. This program is available through the Department of Physical Therapy in the College of Public Health and Health Professions. The award-winning program is an entry-level DPT program that prepares students for licensure.

University of Florida Physical Therapy

The physical therapy program at the University of Florida consists of 8 semesters of coursework and also requires 32 weeks of internship in a full-time clinical setting.  Students will also be required to participate in multiple weeks of part-time work in various PT environments.

University of Florida PT Department Highly Ranked

According to US News and World Report, the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Florida is ranked at number four out of the over 200 schools that have physical therapy programs. The DPT program at the University of Florida is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education and has no citations.

The Physical Therapy Department at the University of Florida has a working relationship with Shands Health Care at UF Hospital, and also has agreements with nearly 260 medical centers around the nation. These relationships not only offer students opportunities to complete clinical work experience, but also offer job placement opportunities upon graduation.

The department Chair is currently held by Krista Vendenborne, PT, PhD who is not only a professor, but also the Associate Dean for Research and Planning for the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions.
