Physical Therapy Schools in Connecticut
To become a licensed Physical Therapist, you must first complete a graduate program from one of the accredited physical therapy schools in Connecticut. Currently, the state offers four accredited programs from which to choose, including locations in Hamden, Fairfield, Storrs and West Hartford.
Doctor of Physical Therapy Degrees
Working as a licensed Physical Therapist requires a minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university, but the majority of graduate schools now offer the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) instead of the master’s program. This is due to changes in the employment market in which many more employers now look for the DPT credential.
Master’s and doctorate programs typically last three to four years and include a combination of classroom study and extensive clinical training hours in internships and fellowships. Additionally, most programs require the completion of a thesis.
The accredited colleges and universities that are among the physical therapy schools in Connecticut are the top schools for jump-starting your career in the field of physical therapy. A prerequisite for taking the national licensing exam is holding a degree from a school that is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
