Physical Therapy Schools in Arkansas

Choosing a career in physical therapy is one of the best choices a student can make, so looking into physical therapy schools in Arkansas is a good place to start. While this field of the healthcare industry is extremely demanding, it’s also extremely rewarding. Not only do physical therapists help their patients to regain mobility and improve quality of life, but they also have a chance to work very closely with their patients in a one-on-one setting.

Physical therapy is a broad field of medicine, with several different potential specialties. You may choose to focus on patients who have been in automobile accidents, for example, or on older individuals who are experiencing a lack of mobility due to the aging process. The choice is yours, and each field is equally rewarding.

Physical therapy involves a great deal of psychology, as well. For patients, the physical therapy process is often a grueling one. Physically the therapy is demanding, and mentally the often-slow progress can be very discouraging. A good physical therapist must be prepared to help their patients through each aspect of the therapy. The best physical therapy schools in Arkansas will fully prepare students for all elements of the job.

Here, we’ll take a look at the two accredited physical therapy schools in Arkansas. Accreditation is a must for any physical therapy school, since it means that the school has been approved to confer a physical therapy degree and that graduating students will be fully prepared and eligible to take the national certification examination.

Arkansas State University

Located in Jonesboro, Arkansas State University is one of only two physical therapy schools in Arkansas which have been fully accredited to confer a physical therapy degree. At Arkansas State, the degree offered is that of a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

Life at Arkansas State University is a diverse and rich experience. Students have the opportunity to join the Physical Therapy Student Association, which is involved in many aspects of campus life including academics, politics and social activities. A new student center features a beautifully equipped fitness center and gives students plenty of ways to occupy their time when not studying or in class.

Due to its location, Arkansas State University offers wonderful opportunities to see the unspoiled wilderness of the Ozark Mountains. Hiking and many other outdoor activities are available, through the college and independently.

University of Central Arkansas

Convenient for residents of the central and southern portions of the state, the University of Central Arkansas offers a DPT program, or Doctor of Physical Therapy. There is no Master’s program for physical therapy offered. Students will divide their time between classroom and clinical studies, with the final 20 weeks of study being solely clinical.

Only approximately ten thousand students attend UCA, giving students a great mixture of small class sizes, individual attention and the feel of a larger campus. Over ninety student organizations exist on campus, offering a wonderfully broad variety to suit any extra-curricular tastes. UCA’s location in Conway puts students very close to Little Rock; these two cities make up one of the largest metropolitan areas in the state, ensuring a wide variety of dining, entertainment and cultural opportunities.
